God of Hope
Just a joyous scripture for today;
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”(Rom. 15:13 NIV11)
Simple observations:
a) Our Lord is called the “God of hope”.. I need that reminder.
b) He can fill us with joy and peace. Both of these are sorely needed in this time. Joy for laughter and rejoicing in the good. Peace for quiet and steady hearts. For deep and restful sleep. We can be filled with these things – bring it on.
c) He will do this .. I.e. that is His work in us – as we trust in Him. There’s a faith component here that recognises the true source of the things we are so hungry for.
d) And the result? A little better? A bit of respite? No! Overflowing hope! We will overflow with hope.. not by our own works – but by His work in us through His Holy Spirit! God’s personal in-dwelling Spirit will bring hope to life in our hearts.
So let’s ask God to give us a deep and abiding trust in Him. Let’s ask Him to be bringing joy and peace to our hearts. The blessings that will flow from that are beautiful. The God of hope will give you abundant hope by His Holy Spirit. May that be our prayer and our blessing today.
Grace and peace,
Stuart.
