Guidance & Protection – Psalm 139
You aren’t invisible.
You aren’t forgotten.
You are loved.
“If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.” (Psalm 139:9–10 NIV11)
Psalm 139 is one of the greatest Psalms of comfort in the song book of Israel. The soaring poetry and the depths of intimacy combine here to wrap the reader in the knowledge of God’s love and care.
Just as Jonah found there is nowhere we can flee from God’s sight, so too the righteous can know that there is no place they are beyond His shepherd’s watch.
Today, in lockdown life, maybe unseen by your neighbours, unseen by your brothers and sisters at church, you are still known and loved by the God who always sees you. He has been watching you from the very first:
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.” (Psalm 139:13-15)
God made you and for those who have acquainted themselves with their King through repentance and faith we can know the great promises of Jesus that, not only will God see us, but in His Son, and by His Spirit, He will never leave us or forsake us.
Be encouraged this morning of God’s guidance and protection.
He sees and He cares.
“Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you that my life is never hidden from you. This great truth drives me simultaneously to confession for my sins, and rejoicing for your care. Please encourage the heart of the lonely today, strengthen the resolve of the weak, direct the path of the aimless, and protect the faith of the shaken. Help us to trust You today knowing Your hand will hold us fast. Amen.”
Grace and peace,
Stuart.
