Protection – Zechariah 2
We put in our alarms, video cameras, movement sensors, security doors.. and all rightly! But there’s a true home for the people of God with perfect protection and perfect security.
“While the angel who was speaking to me was leaving, another angel came to meet him and said to him: “Run, tell that young man, ‘Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of people and animals in it. And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,’ declares the LORD, ‘and I will be its glory within.’”(Zechariah 2:3–5 NIV11)
This great assurance does not arise from guard dogs, high fences, or on-call drivers. No, the protection of the heavenly Jerusalem comes from the one at the centre – God Himself.
He will surround His people like a wall of fire. He will fill the place with His glory and there will be a great multitude dwelling there in the immense comfort and safety of the living God.
It’s a simple promise at one level. It’s also a great hope. I pray that knowing how the story ends gives you strength for today and builds a little joyful expectation for a day that is yet to come.
Grace and peace,
Stuart.
